Very common mistakes are often made when writing work experience in English. These are the keys to writing a good professional resume in English.

Talking about work experience in the language of Shakespeare is not always an easy task and even more so when it comes to applying for a job offer. However, it is within everyone’s reach to break this dreaded barrier if they have the essential keys to writing a good CV in English.

The first thing to keep in mind is that the curriculum in English is not entirely extrapolated to the one commonly used by Spanish speakers. These particularities are reflected in certain characteristics and structures that must always be kept in mind when writing a good CV in the Anglo-Saxon language.

Do not include the photo in the curriculum in English and check other personal data

It may seem strange, however to look for work in English-speaking countries such as the United Kingdom it is not advisable to put the photo in this employment document. The reason why it is not well seen to include the image in the curriculum is so as not to suffer discrimination, especially racial, religious, age or even gender-based.

Regarding age, this is also sensitive information and it is better to put the date of birth instead of how old you are. Furthermore, nationality and marital status should not be included either because, as with other personal data, the reason is to avoid possible discrimination.

Write the cover letter in English along with the CV

In countries like Spain or Italy the cover letter is an optional document that serves to increase the chances of finding a job. Nothing to do with countries with other English-speaking territories, where the cover letter plays a fundamental role when presenting our curriculum in English.

To present the CV in the United Kingdom or the United States, it is essential to write a cover letter in English and mention that the CV is attached below. In this part it is necessary to have a correct grammar and spelling, avoiding online translators as much as possible.

It is advisable for a native speaker to thoroughly review the cover letter because, otherwise, the recruiters will discard it directly and they will not even read the work life.

Use an organized structure in the English curriculum

Like work experience in other languages, in English it is vitally important to follow an organized and clear model, which includes all the data that the company may require at all times.

Likewise, in the curriculum in English language, personal data or personal information must appear first, where the candidate’s name (name) must appear, as well as surname (surname), address of his habitual residence (address), number of telephone (number phone) and email (email).

Right then, work experience will have to be added even before studies, since, for example, the British are very pragmatic and tend to value the skills and professional merits of the interviewee more than their academic qualifications.

Attach references in the curriculum in English

Another typical aspect that is especially valued in Anglo-Saxon countries is to include at the end of the curriculum the contact details of a couple of bosses, supervisors or even co-workers or teachers who speak well of the work done in other previous jobs.

In case you do not have this information or do not want to add it to the curriculum in English, you can also write references available on request or, what is the same, references available when requested.
